Sakinah Long, LMSW BIO


My career in counseling and psychology began in 2014, when I received my Bachelors in Psychology from City College. I later obtained a masters degree in Social Work from Fordham University. My work experience includes being a Direct Service Worker for Intellectually Disabled Populations for 7 years. I later worked as a Social Worker and Director of Social Services providing mental health counseling and services to individuals in Homeless shelter and Supportive Housing. Most recently, I have served as a Medical Social Worker providing counseling to Sexual Assault survivors, Pediatric and Child Counseling as well as Mental Health counseling. I’ve worked individually and with multidisciplinary teams to provide effective, trauma informed and culturally responsive treatments.  I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and older adults. I am proficient in ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, autism spectrum disorders, behavioral health disorders, trauma-related stressors, grief and bereavement. I am experienced in interventions such as crisis intervention, motivational interviewing, cognitive reframing, meditation, cognitive behavioral therapies, dialectical behavioral therapy and play therapy. I have dedicated my career to providing a safe space, free of judgment and rich in compassion and empathy. Passionate about addressing unresolved and unrecognized traumas to help individuals actualize their full potential and live more fulfilling lives. I enjoy providing my clients with the building blocks and tools to realize their goals and dreams.
